Chung Liao Township is located in the central part of Nantou County, surrounded by rolling hills and mountains, making it a "flatland mountain township." Since sloped land occupies most of the arable area, and irrigation farming is inconvenient, dry farming is the main agricultural practice.

In the traditional rural form of Chung Liao Township, it thrived in the past due to banana exports to Japan. Nowadays, the farmland is sparsely distributed, primarily cultivating longans, pearl oranges, bananas, and citrus fruits.

中寮鄉位居南投縣中部，四面山峰丘陵起伏，群山環繞，是一「平地的山地鄉」。因山坡地佔去大部份的耕作面積，水利耕作不便，農作栽種以旱作為主。

傳統農村形態的中寮鄉，早年因香蕉輸日而盛極一時，現今農田零星分布，以栽種龍眼、珍珠柑、香蕉、柑桔等作物為主。
