History of black tea
In the 14th year of the Republic of China during the Japanese occupation, the Japanese introduced the large-leaf Assam tea from Assam, India, and traveled throughout Taiwan to find geographical environments, soil, climate, and local tea-making conditions comparable to those in Assam. Eventually, they selected Sun Moon Lake in Yuchi Township. Its varied terrain at an altitude of about 800 meters, rich geographical environment, suitable annual average temperature, and stable humidity made Yuchi Township a fertile ground for black tea production.

The large-leaf tea tree is a tall tree with a straight trunk. The tree itself is robust, and during the planting process, it requires minimal pesticide application. The tea we offer contains no artificial flavors or additives, adhering to traditional tea-making processes to provide consumers with safe, high-quality products.

Characteristics of black tea

Since the 1930s, our ancestors began planting large-leaf tea trees and developing the black tea industry, which once gained international fame. After Taiwan's recovery, during the 50s and 60s, black tea was one of the main export agricultural products. At that time, out of the 1,800 hectares of black tea planted in Taiwan, over 1,700 hectares were in the Yuchi tea area, highlighting the thriving black tea industry in Yuchi Township. Sun Moon Lake black tea is made from hand-picked large-leaf tea buds (tea leaves) and processed into strip-shaped tea (dried tea) to distinguish it from the ball-shaped tea of high mountain tea. The Yuchi Township Farmers' Association's black tea series includes four varieties: Hongyu/Churui, Assam, Hongyun, and Zangya, each with its own unique aroma and flavor. Black tea is a fully fermented tea, which has minimal impact on the body and is not burdensome, making it a tea experience that can last a lifetime.

紅茶的歷史
民國十四年日治時代,日本人由印度阿薩姆省引進大葉種茶葉「阿薩姆紅茶」,並遍訪全台,尋找地理環境、土壤、氣候與阿薩姆省相當及當地具有製茶品質條件,最後由魚池鄉日月潭雀屏中選。其海拔約800公尺的多變地形,擁有豐富的地理環境,加上適宜的年均溫及穩定的濕度,讓魚池鄉成為紅茶生產紮根的溫床,之後經由茶業改良場(已更名為茶及飲料作物改良場)魚池分場不斷進行品種選育,才造就出名聞遐邇的日月潭紅茶。因日月潭茶區微妙的風土差異,決定了日月潭紅茶茶質的氣韻,是其他地區的紅茶遠不能及的。

大葉種茶樹為喬木,有一直立樹幹,本身樹體強壯,在種植過程中不太需施放農藥;我們推出的茶均無人工香精、無人工添加劑,遵守傳統製茶工序,提供消費者安心、高品質的產品。

紅茶特色

本鄉自1930年代,先民即開始種植大葉種茶樹,發展紅茶產業,期間曾經飄揚過海揚名國際。台灣光復後民國50~60年代,紅茶是外銷農產品主力之一。當時台灣紅茶種植面積1800多公頃中,魚池茶區就佔了1700多公頃,可見當時魚池鄉紅茶產業的盛況。民國70年代後,因台灣的工商業發展工資高漲,致紅茶的生產成本提高,在國際上不敵印度錫蘭的競爭。遂致紅茶產業逐漸沒落了將近二十年。經過了二十年的沈潛韜光養晦,九二一地震中,震醒了這頭巨獅,在魚池鄉各界的努力下,推動紅茶產業的升級進化,讓「日月潭紅茶」重新獲得國內外消費者的肯定青睞。至106年底,本鄉紅茶復耕及新種植面積已達600多公頃,紅茶產業已是本鄉現在及未來最重要的產業。

日月潭紅茶是以手工採一心二葉大葉種茶葉(茶菁),製成條型茶(茶乾),以便和高山茶的球型茶區別開。魚池鄉農會的紅茶系列有4個品系-紅玉/初蕊、阿薩姆、紅韻、藏芽,香氣滋味各有特色。而紅茶是屬全發酵的茶,對身體的影響最小,不易造成負擔,是可以喝一輩子的茶。
